If Miss Lemon had a coat dress in her closet, we like to think it would be this one!
A coat dress is most definitely a dress! A dress that mimics a coat in its style lines. This one is true to the early-ish 1930s silhouette with a slim fit and 3” of ease at the bust and waist and 5” of ease at the hips.
There are shoulder and fisheye darts in the front for shaping and the back has double princess seams. The sleeves are pieced with contrast fabric to achieve maximum drama-but the construction is a breeze. 11 self fabric covered buttons complete vintage aesthetic. Fully lined.
Pattern includes 11 sizes from 32”-52“ bust. Drafted for a B cup. Center back length: 42” - 45.5.”
This design is best in a crisp fabric with a fair amount of body. A soft drape-y or light weight fabric will work with a silk organza or cotton organdy underlining. Underlining yardages are provided. (dharmatrading.com is a good source for silk organza.)
Fabrics: Crisp midweight fabric are suitable. Midweight version of all the following are suggested: gabardine, shantung, twill, brocade, tussah, jacquard, tweed. Also lighter weight fabrics such as suitings with underlining.
Notions: 11 - size 45 or 1 1/8” covered button forms (WAWAK.com is a good source for covered button blanks) thread, contrast thread.
